September Update

We're now into September, and the weather has gotten noticeably cooler here over the past week. Unfortunately, we're right in them middle of typhoon season, so we're expecting some rainy days up ahead.

Today Rhianna had her first set of vaccinations. We went to St. Lukes Hospital, near where we live. They have a nice pediatric center there. We're pretty lucky, in that medical care is free for children in our Ward (Chuo Ward) until at least junior high school. As luck would have it, the doctor who gave Rhianna her vaccinations was a young doctor I had taught suturing to earlier in the year (St. Lukes also happens to be one of the hospitals I go to through my work in Johnson & Johnson). We were both pretty surprised!

Rhianna performed wonderfully. All the other kids in the waiting room exited the doctor's room in tears after their vaccinations, but not Rhianna. She looked into our eyes and was relaxed and calm throughout the whole process--even laughing after it was done.

Speaking of laughing, I'm including a video of Rhianna laughing that we took the other day. Recently, Rhianna has gotten into laughing, and it's really great to see. She really gets a kick out of me making funny faces--it never ceases to send her into giggles.

She also likes trying to stand (even though she can't crawl yet). Im including a picture of her standing on a chair (don't worry, support staff was close by for this stunt).

More soon!
